I recently was privy to an email that a colleague of mine sent to her people and it struck a chord.
So much so that I have been inspired to share it and what it means to me….
It starts with a quote by Jane Howard, “Call it a clan, call it a network, call it a tribe, call it a family. Whatever you call it, whoever you are, you need one”.
I have been fortunate enough to be able to shelter in place with my son and my folks at my parent’s beautiful home at Lake Tahoe.
It is a rare opportunity that we are all together because normally we live 200 miles apart.
And I am so very grateful and fortunate to be with them.
To be absolutely honest, it has made me realize the experience may not have been as nice if it was me at home with my housemates who like us and yet can’t/won’t/don’t fully support me and my son (no judgment they have full lives too).
Rather, I was in an environment surrounded by family who fully and completely supported me as I attempted to do work, navigate life, and parenting, and homeschooling, all at the same time.
Whew! It’s a lot all at once!
Had it just been me and my son with my roommates, the experience would have much harder and not as nice as an experience for all involved.
It made me realize that I have a similar experience with my clients vs customers who don’t connect, trust, or commit.
Sacrificing my weekend afternoons or weekday evenings after working the whole day to show homes to one of my clients who trust and appreciate me, is a joy and a responsibility I take very seriously.
Why would it make that much of a difference?
Because to me, my clients are my clan, my tribe, and ultimately, my family.
It is not just a deal, a transaction, and definitely not about money to me.
My joy and the energy to do what I do on a daily basis comes from helping the wonderful people in my life.
Today, I just wanted to say thank you and want to share how fortunate I am that you allow me in your life and that I am part of it.
So from the bottom of my heart, thank you!
May you walk in beauty.
